Our Story

In 1958, the British Overseas School was established as a non-profit organization, serving as a primary school for the children of expatriate families. Over the decades, the school flourished and earned a stellar reputation for both academic excellence and the holistic development of its students. The expansion of its student body enabled the school to relocate to purpose-built facilities in the tranquil Defence Housing Authority, a serene suburb of Karachi. This move marked a significant milestone in the school’s growth, offering a conducive environment for learning and personal growth.

In 2000, a revision to the British Overseas School’s constitution broadened its admissions policy to include local families, thereby affording them the opportunity to join the expatriate community in reaping the benefits of a modern British education. Consequently, the British Overseas School has, in numerous respects, evolved into an international institution, with a diverse array of nationalities represented at any given time. Notwithstanding this global composition, the British Overseas School has steadfastly preserved its distinctly British ethos, maintaining the hallmark values and traditions that define its character.

By the year 2004, the School extended its provision to include secondary education. In so doing, the British Overseas School became the only school in Karachi to offer a British education from pre-school right through to I/GCSE. Responding to demand, the Secondary School moved into new facilities in 2005.

Our commitment to a British style of education is signalled in our curriculum, which is based on the National Curriculum of England and the I/GCSE syllabuses of the Edexcel examining board. But, perhaps more importantly, our UK trained teachers infuse the School with British values and attitudes, as well as ensuring that we are up to date with developments in educational policy and best practice.

Today, the British Overseas School is the sole institution in Pakistan to hold accreditation as a British School Overseas (BSO) – a prestigious mark of excellence awarded by the UK Government, signifying the highest standards of British education across the globe. Our primary school pupils thrive in an environment that embodies the values of a British education, while our secondary school students consistently achieve outstanding results in their I/GCSE examinations. All of our students benefit from an educational philosophy that places personal development at the heart of all we do.

Despite the rapid expansion and numerous transformations, the school has experienced, it remains steadfast in its commitment to its founding principles and continues to exude the warm, familial atmosphere that has always defined it. Our traditions, character, and objectives are enshrined in our vision, mission, and values every aspect of our educational endeavour.
